Lucknow Airport Expands Capacity with New East Apron to Boost Operations

Lucknow | In a significant step towards strengthening aviation infrastructure and enhancing operational efficiency, Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport (CCSIA) has commissioned a new East Apron as part of its ongoing master plan development.

The newly developed apron comes in response to a steady rise in passenger aircraft movement and is expected to play a key role in streamlining airport operations.

Capacity Expanded to 20 Aircraft Stands

With the addition of five new parking bays, the airport’s capacity has increased from 15 to 20 Code C aircraft stands—typically used for narrow-body aircraft such as Airbus A320 and Boeing 737. This expansion is set to significantly improve aircraft handling capacity, especially during peak hours.

Seamless Connectivity to Runway

The East Apron has been strategically integrated with the runway through Taxiway P6 (a partial taxi track) and Taxiway L1, ensuring smooth and uninterrupted aircraft movement. Officials said the design enables efficient landing, taxiing, and take-off operations without disrupting scheduled flight activity.

Boost to Terminal 3 Operations

The new stands are expected to support operations at Terminal 3, with airlines likely to utilize them for night halts. This will improve early morning flight connectivity, offering greater convenience to passengers and airlines alike.

Enhanced Handling of Diversions and Delays

The East Apron will also serve as a critical buffer during emergencies and adverse weather conditions. It will allow diverted aircraft to be accommodated without affecting regular operations, while also helping manage delayed or cancelled flights more efficiently.

Strengthening Operational Resilience

Airport authorities подчеркнули that the development ensures smoother handling of unscheduled aircraft movements, enabling landings and take-offs to be carried out seamlessly without impacting routine schedules.

The expansion reflects CCSIA’s commitment to modernizing infrastructure and preparing for future growth, positioning Lucknow as a key aviation hub in North India.
